Why source training on autism and neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity encompasses us all. Diverse ways of thinking and perceiving the world, with differences, challenges and strengths in many areas. Some people’s brains work a little differently to what is generally considered typical.

  • Statistics show that up to 1 in 7 people in the UK are neurodivergent. This includes Autism, ADHD, Tourettes, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and more.
  • More than 1 in 100 people in the UK are autistic. Autism is a part of everyday life for 2.8 million people if you also include family connections.
  • Researchers estimate there are 750,000 adults in the UK who are autistic but have no formal diagnosis.

You are more than likely connected to an autistic person in some way, you just might not know it.

Despite the prevalence of autism, did you know that only around 22-29% of working age autistic people are in any form of employment. That is compared to 53.5% of people who have other disabilities and 81.6% of neurotypical and non-disabled people.*

*Autism is recognised as a disability under the Equality Act 2010 however, it is a personal choice whether autistic and neurodivergent people consider themselves to be, and refer to themselves as disabled/having a disability.

Autistic people may have challenges with sensory sensitivities, social communication and executive functioning but, can also have a wealth of associated strengths including attention to detail, pattern recognition, information recall, integrity, creativity and more. All of which can bring significant value to your team.

We all thrive in spaces designed to embrace and empower us.

We can help you develop a deeper insight into autism and neurodiversity and support you to refine your spaces and processes to be more neuro-inclusive.
